While many celebrities are trying to invest in the world of technology, very few are doing so successfully. And no one has proved his value as a celebrity become VC more than Ashton Kutcher .
That's why we are absolutely delighted to welcome Ashton Kutcher and Sound Ventures partner Effie Epstein to TC Disrupt SF in September.
Kutcher began investing in 2011 with the launch of A-Grade Investments. The company has invested in leading companies such as DuoLingo, FlexPort, ProductHunt, Airbnb and Uber. In 2014, Kutcher, along with his long-time friend and partner Guy Oseary, created a new venture capital firm called Sound Ventures.
Since its launch, Sound Ventures has made 53 investments and conducted six rounds of financing, with portfolio companies such as Gusto, Vicarious, Robinhood, Lemonade and Acorns.
And in 2017, Sound made another investment in the form of Effie Epstein. The firm turned to Epstein as managing partner and COO, and Kutcher told TechCrunch: "Effie has extensive knowledge of commercial and fiduciary responsibilities. She also has a multidisciplinary background that allows her to embark on an adventure. The bottom line is that she is someone for whom I want to work. "
Before joining Sound, Epstein led the global strategy at Marsh's Marsh & McLennan subsidiary. Prior to Marsh, she was Senior Vice President of Planning and Head of Investor Relations at iHeartMedia before working on Business Development at Clear. Epstein also worked in investment banking in the energy sector and earned an MBA from Harvard Business School.
In other words, Epstein brings a multi-disciplinary approach to Sound, which ventures beyond mainstream technologies in the financial services, insurance technology, business, government and industry sectors. medical technologies.
This will not be Kutcher's first go-around at Disrupt. He spoke to Disrupt NY in 2013, just when the world heard about Bitcoin. We are delighted to return to the topic of cryptocurrency and other things with Kutcher and Epstein, and discuss their investment thesis.
