Social media users allege that there is a reason why scam has been so successful.

They base this charge on a lesser known Gmail tip that allows users to insert a tag into their email address when they subscribe to mailing lists. When they start receiving emails for which they have not subscribed, they can use this tag to identify from whom a sender has acquired the recipient's details.

Bee Token did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the alleged violation.
