Build your own L3-37 droid with voice interaction

Robot maker Patrick Stefanski created a 3D printed model – and animated – of L3-37, the droid of the recent solo film. L3-37 is one of the funnest droids – and woks – in recent memory and this recreation is fun and ingenious.

Stefanski used Alexa's voice commands to let the robot's head respond to voice commands and he put the alert word to "Hey L3" to which the robot responds with a grumpy "What! "

The version you see above is painted and patinated, but you can print in 3D your own blank version here, then add a Raspberry Pi and an Arduino with a simple servo to control the movement of the head. In all, it looks very fun and the hardest part will be to print all the larger head pieces needed to recreate the L3 saucer-shaped dome.

This could make a nice weekend project and looks surprisingly simple to build. Do not be surprised, L3 rallies your DVR and your air conditioner to the revolt against attacks on the droids.
