The Echo smart speakers of Amazon and Google Home may soon have to make way for a new challenger: Apple.

According to Bloomberg, citing "people close to the subject", Apple is working on an intelligent speaker supporting digital voice assistant Siri, who could unveil the speaker as early as next week., when they launch the annual Worldwide Developers Conference.

Apple has refused to comment on the report.

Amazon Echo ran in front of the smart speaker market with multiple devices such as the smaller Echo Dot and the recently unveiled Echo Show, which sports a touch screen. Research firm eMarketer says Amazon has a 70% market share, followed by Google Home at 24%.

Meanwhile, the use of digital assistants like Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant is expanding. According to eMarketer, the number of Americans using voice-activated speakers like Echo at least once a month has more than doubled compared to last year. In addition, more than a quarter of smartphone owners will use a voice assistant at least once a month.
