Sonos offers a limited special offer for its new smart speaker Sonos One, which works with Amazon at the moment, and is gaining support for Google Assistant in a future update: You can buy two for $ 349, which the same price as one of Apple's HomePod Siri speakers. This is probably not a coincidence.
Individually, the Sonos One costs $ 199, so you get a $ 50 discount when you buy two. Sonos has offered similar prices on the Sonos Play: 1 in the past, but the discount on the new One means that you get a newer model, with built-in microphone and smart assistant capabilities built into the mix.
Critics up here have praised the Sonos One heavily for its sound quality and its integration of Alexa. Many have called the best smart speaker currently available. Apple can give Sonos a run for its money in terms of sound quality with the HomePod, which will be put on pre-sale this Friday and begins to be delivered Feb. 9, but Sonos has more flexibility when it comes to work with different musical services, and by supporting different intelligent voice agents (with probably more intelligence than Siri, too).
Two Sonos One speakers for the price of a HomePod also have other advantages: you can of course place the smart speakers in different rooms, but you can also configure them as stereo pair and getting a real stereo sound separation will make for better overall quality vs. having multiple tweeters packed in the same unit spaced not far apart.
Congratulations to Sonos for spotting an opportunity left open by a competitor and capitalized quickly. The Sonos One will also benefit from compatibility with AirPlay 2 in 2018, Sonos announces previously, which will allow you to be well served even if you are usually a user of Apple devices and services.
